The greater Colorado Springs area is home to over 500,000 people. Among this city scape, there are only two Orthodox Churches. In an effort to bring the Gospel of Christ to this area, the faithful of Holy Theophany Church created a plan to plant a mission in the city. On January 26th, 2014, this effort came to fruition, marked by the first Sunday Service — Divine Liturgy, held at Agia Sophia Coffee Shop.
The Saint Sophia Orthodox Mission consists of about 30 regular members and Divine Liturgy is offered every Sunday at 9 a.m. The services are celebrated by Father Panayiotis (Fr. Pan) Tekosis.
The vision of the people of the mission community is to bring the Gospel of Christ to those in the neighborhood area, as well as the 'mission field' of the city of Colorado Springs. By offering divine services at the coffee house, people in the immediate area have access to the fullness of the Orthodox Christian Faith.
